Volunteers
Volunteers are the heart of Dear Neighbor Ministries. Without volunteers, the sisters would be unable to carry out their mission of caring for their "dear neighbors." We rely on volunteers in all of our programs.
Our volunteers include people of all ages, skills and experience. Opportunities are available for those who want to volunteer only once, or once in awhile, to those who are able to make a weekly commitment or more. We welcome individuals and groups of all affiliations and denominations to share in the work of helping people in need.
Volunteer opportunities include cleaning and minor home repair for families who have been victims of domestic violence. Some of our volunteers help Social Security recipients manage their finances when they aren't able to do it themselves. Others answer phones, serve as receptionists and do clerical work in the Dear Neighbor Ministries office. Some help with monthly food distribution at our food co-op. Specially-trained volunteers help low-income people complete and file their income tax returns. Still others help prepare garden plots in the Community Garden or plant flowers and tend the Peace Garden. Volunteers help low-income people living in the Hilltop neighborhood winterize their homes to lower their winter utility bills. The list goes on …
There are usually projects available for youth groups, employee groups, Eagle Scout projects, civic groups or others who would like to volunteer together.
If you would like to volunteer for Dear Neighbor Ministries, we would like to talk to you.
