emergency assistance and referral

Among the ways the sisters and staff help their neighbors in Hilltop is to deliver food; provide emergency rent, utilities and transportation assistance; tutor in GED preparation and English as a second language; help residents connect with social service agencies; and provide them with donated furniture, appliances and household items.

Dear Neighbor Ministries staff members facilitate referrals to community agencies that can provide assistance and they further develop outreach programs to benefit the neighborhood.

Dear Neighbor Ministries also collaborates with others who work in the neighborhood. Staff, volunteers and sisters join forces with Hilltop Urban Church to caulk and cover windows to help residents lower their winter heating bills.

Dear Neighbor Ministries' volunteer coordinator and staff members plan and direct volunteer groups and individuals in clean-up and minor home repair projects throughout the year.
