In January, 2006, Dear Neighbor Ministries' StepStone program kicked off a new initiative to involve businesses and civic groups in combating domestic violence. Called StepStone Corporate Partnerships, it provides a way to sustain the program's transitional houses and a way for employers and civic groups to educate their constituencies about domestic violence.
Each of StepStone's nine houses and six duplex residences were made available for sponsorship. Sponsors make a donation which helps cover the cost of maintaining a home for one year. If they choose, sponsoring organizations may hold "work days" when the home is vacant to do painting, cleaning, yard work and minor home repairs.
In return, sponsoring organizations receive, at their option:
-
Custom designed employee and management seminars on domestic violence
-
Assistance in developing a company policy and resource guide on domestic violence
-
Articles on domestic violence for their in-house publications
-
Assistance to employees or members affected by domestic violence
-
Non-identifying progress reports on the family living in the home they sponsor
-
The house is named in honor of its sponsor.
To date, the following companies are members of StepStone Corporate Partnerships:
|
|
Wilson Building Maintenance, Metro Courier Service, Simpson & Associates, Cessna Foundation, Good Neighbor Employee Fund Spirit Aerosystems, Intrust Bank, Emprise Bank, Medical Community Credit Union, the Law Company, EMC Insurance, Hilb, Rogal & Hobbs of Kansas, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Men's Club.
